Tunga and the Magical Binoculars

So Katha had this competition. And I wrote and illustrated a book. But then the dates got bumped and I sent in a hurried entry. So I've written and am illustrating a new story. Just thought I'd put the previous one up for feedback.

For those who know me very little, silver jewellery is my distinguishing fashion statement. I had to submit a compostion for a photography test, and thought it best to use what I've got.

My obsession began with the bangles, a gift from nani, who many years back gave Di and I all the silver she had been storing. As I grew, my silver grew in amount and variety. I added to the collection of bangles, bought many a pairs of earrings, flicked lots of ma's rings, and bought some of my own. I couldn't possibly imagine myself without all my stuff, materialistic though it may seem.

This composition has my much loved bangles, the earrings pa bought me after i made him drive to squiggly silver streets in Ooty that he had never seen before despite studying there for 10 years ( expected, i suppose ), and a ring I bought this dhanteras for myself.

Photography this time round.

Photography again. We had to photograph nature. I went all Boho and did fibers and mud and sunlight on flowers. Fun it was.

Because normal kinds of torture just won't do!

Classwork can sometimes be fun,
And sometimes, an incurable pain in the bum.
I am now spectacled courtesy all the stippling,
The line shading had me flipping.

We had stippling and colour pencil shading as part of our module at college, titled "illustration techniques". Sadly, it was more like a drawing and sketching module. Anyhow, I thought that though it was one week of deadeningly boring work, it turned out pretty okay. The images I've uploaded are both A4 sized, so it was a lot of dot-dot-dotting and dash-dash-dashing. Sigh.

Comical story

We had this super floofy assignment in class that involved storyboarding using tangrams. The floofy part being the theme, ours was water. So while Quails, Bucks, Pooja and Atta busied themselves with creating sea creatures out of tangrams, amidst much frenzy for other reasons, I concocted a floofy story/poem to go.
Here goes:
One gloomy Monday morning, Eustice the Sea Horse had the Monday morning blues. He was late for work, but too lazy to move. Athena, the friendly water, knew that he would lose his job at 'Algae Kitchen' if he didn't get to work pronto.
She worked her magic and sent a current his way to carry him swiftly there.
Now speaking of 'Algae Kitchen', Fat Fish was there last night. She ate not one, nor two, but seven special deep fried algae platters. She looked at herself in the mirror this morning and moaned and groaned at her size. She swore to fight her way from fat to fit.
Many days and several visits to 'Algae Kitchen' later, she had lost hope. Athena heard her hopeless cries. Each time Fat Fish made her way to 'Algae Kitchen', Athena turned the tides around and gushed her to the aqua-aerobics class nearby. Soon enough, Fat Fish was fit and such a little healthy git!
Now Crabby the Crab was having a bad day. Fat Fish was gone, his business was astray. Eustice the Sea Horse was late again! Athena just had to make Crabby happy. It just wouldn't do to have him snappy.
She snapped her fingers and turned the tides. Bearing spatula and algae patty did Eustice arrive. The doors flew open and in did come swarms of hungry deep sea chums.
Somewhere at a dingy booth James the seven sided Starfish sat. Before him his untouched algae and soda- low fat! Athena knew that he thought himself strange. A Starfish with seven sides was quite a big change. She knew his morale was on an all time low. Little did he know how far he had to go. She gushed him by and whispered, "Oh James, don't be sad. You really are special, you are here to fight the bad. You are not just James Bond, but 007. The protector of the feeble and the slayer of evil!"
Athena makes happy those who are sad. She fight's for all that's good and against all that's bad. Love this blue beauty, and you will be glad!

That's it! P.s, we had a tangram mermaid as a bond girl and whatnot!

Colaba...This time round.

Walking whilst awaiting the arrival of Quailey, Medhi and Ashita didi, I did some walking at Colaba Causeway yet again. The colour was overwhelming as usual. So I snapped.

The awesomeness that is Unnikrishnan Iyer (At the risk of sounding obsessed)

My obsession with South India, it's food and it's accents.......All materialised into the development of my awesome Tam-Brahm, Unnikrishnan Iyer.
After repeated rough sketches, it was awesome when I could finally put him in my green book. And it was more awesome when I got to use him in an assignment as an animated character deeply engrossed in twitter with a kutti-papa sardarji ( Bucky's little Jassoo).
In this post you will find Unni doing funny things, the funniest being his jaw-dropping.
Unni says " 'Ssappening? " in true filter coffee style.
Thank you, Kela....umm, A.K.A, Reishabh Kailey, for filling him in with colour on photoshop.

Somewhere in my green book. The words are lyrics from the Last Statement by Insomnium. They just fit somehow.

Footwork, Genda Phool and What if?

Photography workshop at college.
Forced to take pictures.
Refused to be typical and photograph flowers and flaa-flaa.
Okay, One of them is my feet, with my payals, etc.I've titled it Footwork.
One is Atta looking all contemplative. She was actually thinking, "Hmm...should I eat at the canteen or at the mess?" Clearly, such a life altering decision. I called this one, What if?
Haan, the last one is what happens to Atta everytime she hears the song Genda Phool from Delhi 6. She attains some super-Madu-ness, and starts dancing like she's doing the thumri, hence the twirly hand movements. You can see why I've called this one Genda Phool.
Thanks to the Atta (actually known to most as Medha), and to the Krunal Patel for lending me his camera. And to my mommy and poppy and Krishy for supporting me and always being there for me. Okay, I only put that in because it sounded like I had won an Oscar, what with all the thanking. Also, I guess you hardly appreciate the people you take for granted, so thought, chalo, may as well types. Ok, now bas, haan. Kindly leave honest feedback and/or critisism, so I may anticipate my marks. THankee!

Blue Moo Cow

India. Too many people. Cows on every street. So many decisions to make. To vote or not to vote? My blue cow is depictive of the mood. Like me, she doesn't know whether to vote. Who to vote for? To abstain her vote? Or to just sit back and grumble some more....

The Miracles of a strange camera phone

Everyone has those days when they are sitting at a place cursing there phones. Or their service provider for the lack of reception. And then, out of nowhere, the sunlight comes pouring in. Literally. And the dear little phone that you have been making strange faces at is suddenly your best friend. The miracles of a camera phone!

Nostalgia

Done around 3 years back, this is the cover of the sketchbook I used for most of my doodles back in the 11th and 12th grades. Missing school. Missing Ramjhani, Shylesh, and all the other fictional characters we came up with to annoy Nihar. Sigh. Stupid AD. Why you go and get me all nostalgic, pah?

Ajanta, Ellora and Paithan

As part of our annual excursion through college, we were taken to visit the caves at Ajanta and Ellora. En route, we also got to see how Paithani sarees are made. These pictures are so-so, considering that they are from my piddoo little camera phone, but I had to put them up.

Curly-Whirley Flower Day

Curly-whirley flower day was over a year ago. I sat on ganda stairs with nothing to do, waiting for math class to begin. Yet, somehow, I was happy as never before. With my curly-whirley flowers.

Chaapa maaroing

Pre-linocut drafting. Missing school. Missing Chandan's coolio Bengali accent. Sigh.
